Angelica Cantanti is one of the finest community youth choral programs in the Upper Midwest. It provides a comprehensive musical experience for young people ages 7-18 and is one of the rich musical treasures of the Twin Cities. I have had the opportunity to serve as a guest conductor with the combined choirs of Angelica Cantanti. Characteristic from the youngest to the oldest singer is an attention to beautiful, healthy and expressive singing with the desire to communicate a transforming message to the listener. The artistic staff understands the nature of the young and evolving adolescent singer, challenging them with a global repertoire drawn from the finest music of the classical, folk, and world music genres. Indeed the artistry of these young singers is impressive as they are nurtured through their choral singing as whole people in body, mind, spirit and voice!

Having been involved with Angelica Cantanti as a parent, volunteer, and director, I can say unequivocally that this is the premiere children's choir organization in Minnesota. What sets Angelica apart from other children's choirs across the country is the director's commitment to the emotional well being and musical education of each individual in the organization. This is a choir where children come first, and all directors are committed to this goal. And the product is glorious! It has been my honor and delight to have had many of my compositions performed over the years by the wonderful choirs of Angelica Cantanti, including my extended work In Endless Song: A Mosaic of American Folk Music which they commissioned to feature all of their ensembles for their 20th anniversary season. I have attended or conducted many rehearsals and performances, and I always have come away with the conviction that this is an organization where children and older youth are truly loved and musically nurtured and fulfilled. The leadership at all levels is outstanding, and it is obvious from the final product at concerts that not only are notes, texts and rhythms taught, but also proper vocal technique and, most importantly, an enthusiasm for making beautiful music and sharing it with an audience. I hope that for decades to come, the choirs of Angelica Cantanti will continue to provide the same life-changing experiences for their young singers and for those fortunate enough to hear them!
