The ACLU-MN defends individuals from governmental violations of rights guaranteed them in the Bill of Rights.

The ACLU-MN defends the foundations upon which American democracy is based; the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. The most fundamental rights which we would like to take for granted, such as freedom of speech, separation of church and state, and the right to peacefully assemble are regularly assailed.

Your support of the ACLU-MN protects your civil liberties and those of all Minnesotans through public education, lobbying and litigation. Your donations help leverage the valuable services of Minnesota attorneys who donate thousands of hours of pro-bono work annually.

The ACLU has been there defending the civil liberties of individuals this year who have been mistreated by the police because of the color of their skin or for exercising their rights to freedom of expression. We were there for women whose rights to access birth control and the full spectrum of birth control was called into question by their employers. We were there for students when a school was considering censoring their access to books. We are there advocating for your privacy rights by lobbying for stricter controls on automatic license plate readers. We are there in classrooms talking to students about their rights and handing out constitutions. We are there fighting for racial justice by releasing reports showing disparity in arrest rates of blacks by the Minneapolis Police Department. We are tirelessly working to protect your rights across the state, but we can’t do that without your help. We will be there at the State Capitol urging Legislators to protect your privacy rights on social networking sites like Facebook.

Your donation on November 14th will fund this work, while also leveraging a $10,000 matching challenge from ACLU-MN supporters. By donating today, you can help us assure that our founding fathers’ vision of our country is a reality. You can protect their vision of an America where everyone is created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
