Tragedy and bad luck happens to good people. Many times the people from the Willmar area have pulled together to help each other out.

The Willmar Area Community Foundation's Good Samaritan Fund helps individuals and families in Kandiyohi County at a critical time in their lives. The Foundation partners with six local nonprofit agencies to identify and verify individuals needing assistance. After review by a volunteer Good Samaritan Committee, one-time grants of $1,000 or less may be awarded.

The Fund provides a range of emergency assistance that includes such services as transportation to a job, child care, rent, medical care, vehicle repair, heat or fuel.

    The Good Samaritan Fund provides one time help to those facing emergency needs thru no fault of their own. It helps those facing unforeseen medical expense, transportation or housing needs that have been carefully reviewed by agency staff and committee members. In the words of one recipient, " it was a godsend,"
